Sightseeing in St. Louis

Taking St. Louis by Bus!

Grayline offers two great tours of St. Louis, the Grand Tour and the Historical Tour. More information on each of these tours can be found on the Grayline Bus Tours of St. Louis page of this website. But what if the sites you desperately want to see aren't included in either of those tours? One option to be considered is to purchase a day pass from a public transportation service. Metrobus services offer a day pass for less than $5. With this pass you will be able to take in all of St. Louis, on your terms. Just grab a map, a bus schedule, and a pair of walking shoes and you are well on your way to a great day of sightseeing. But which sites do you want to see? Sure, there are the major attractions, like the Anheuser Busch Brewery and the Gateway Arch. The St. Louis Zoo is also a popular place to visit, but what else is there? Here is just a taste of things to see in St. Louis.

Cupples House
Built in 1888 for a savvy business entrepreneur, Cupples House is one of the few examples of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture left in the city. Built with purple Colorado sandstone the home features many architectural details that were popular at the time, including gargoyles. The home was meant to be a showpiece, and the architect completed this feat beautifully. The opulent home features 22 fireplaces and an amazing collection of carved wood and stained glass. Inside the home is a personal collection of fine and decorating art that contains pieces dating back 5 centuries.

St. Louis Carousel
A whimsical outing to Faust County park isn't complete without a ride on the famous St. Louis Carousel. The carousel was built around 1920 and is the only antique working carousel in the city. The 60 hand carved and painted horses, deer, and chariots are still in wonderful working order due to a wonderful reconstruction. The carousel has been through its ups and downs, excuse the pun, including surviving a devastating fire, but it is now a favorite activity for young children and adults alike.

St. Louis Walk of Fame
See brass stars and bronze plaques dedicated to over 100 influential Missouri citizens, past and present. While strolling down the walk you will see dedications to any number of people ranging from scientists and authors to famous movie stars. The walk was established in 1988 to help preserve the cultural history of the city, and it has become a popular attraction for those looking to pay homage to the famous St. Louisians featured. You can see plaques dedicated to everyone from the amazing Maya Angelou, who was raised in St. Louis, to the Hollywood siren Betty Grable. Many more stars are featured on the walk, with a short biography about each accompanying their star or plaque.
