Missouri Botanical Garden
The Missouri Botanical Garden has been open to the public in 1859 and is the oldest botannical garden in the country. The dream of a simple man, Henry Shaw, became a reality through much hard work and planning. Also located inside the garden is the Linnean House greenhouse, the oldest operational greenhouse in the United States. There are several other buildings, including a museum, located on the grounds. The gardens here are a work of art, lovingly tended by gardeners who have made their career at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. There are over a dozen individual gardens located here on the whole, ranging from Japanese and Chinese gardens, to a children's garden, to general display gardens, and finally a sculpture garden.
Tower Grove Park
Tower Grove was established by the same man who built the amazing Missouri Botanical Garden, Henry Shaw. This Victorian paradise is a park that is lauded for its excellence in all arenas. There are "regular" park attractions like softball fields and the like, but there is also a beautiful garden located on the premises. Here you can see a multitude of songbirds, attracted by the large trees in the area. Different flowers bloom in the garden each season, never leaving the ground bare. No matter what time of the year you visit Tower Grove Park it is a pretty safe bet that it will be both beautiful and serene.
McCarthy Garden
Not your average garden, McCarthy Garden is a sensory extravaganza that will delight everyone who steps in. Created by Doug McCarthy, who began to lose his sight 20 years ago, the garden incorporates both sight and sound into an amazing blend of sensory wonder. The two acre garden contains wind chimes and 13 different fountains, each of which has a different sound. This unique garden is not one to be missed.
Weiner Garden
Weiner Garden is a privately owned garden that is currently being restored to its former beauty. The small garden has a Victorian charm of times gone by. With the cobbled walkways and rose arbors, the simple garden is a serene place to do a bit of soul searching. A koi pond provides a chance to reflect, both on your life and the garden.
