The Best Breweries in St. Louis
Anheuser Busch Brewing Company
Visiting the Anheuser Busch Brewery will give you a lesson in all aspects of the beer making process. Your tour begins by viewing the raw ingredients used to make the beer, namely barley, hops, rice, yeast, malt, and, water. You will then be taken to another of the several buildings on the property to view the mash, and finally to the vats where the beer is brewed. You are then taken to the bottling plant where you can see how Anheuser Busch products are bottled or canned and sent out into the world. Also included in the tour are free samples and snacks. You will also have the opportunity to visit the famous Anheuser Busch Clydesdales in their barn and paddock!
Morgan Street Brewery
While the Morgan Street Brewery was only founded a little over 10 years ago, it is housed in buildings that date back more than 130 years. When visiting Morgan Street you will get a double dose of tours, one about beer, and the other a lesson in history. Morgan Street Brewery is a working brewery that also operates as a restaurant. All of the special beers served in the diner are hand crafted next door in the brewery. Just a few of their special beers include: honey wheat, Vienna, and dopplebock. Morgan Street is a great place to sample several beers and have a fantastic meal at the same time!
Schlafly Beer
Schlafly Beer has the distinction of being the first new bottling brewery in St. Louis opened since Prohibition. Since opening in 1991 they have been steadily building a reputation for excellence and amazing beer. The brewery offers a tour which will educate even the most ignorant in the beer making process. During the tour you will have the opportunity to taste several Schlafly beer products. The Tap Room is another Schlafly creation, a beer pub where you can enjoy a wonderful meal and a bottle of Schlafly's signature beer.
Trailhead Brewing Company
Just a short drive from St. Louis is St. Charles, MO, the site of our next brewery. Trailblazer is known equally for the amazing food served at the restaurant, and the innovative beers that they serve there. Non-traditional beers like riverboat raspberry fruit beer and the old courthouse stout, are becoming popular around the St. Louis area. If you try one of the beers at the brewery and decide you must take some home with you, all menu beers are available for purchase at the brewery.
O'Fallon Brewery
O'Fallon is a small, locally run brewery that is building up a name in St. Louis for producing some wonderful beer. They love invention and uniqueness so much that, aside from brewing "regular" beers throughout the year, they brew a special beer for each season. O'Fallon Cherry Chocolate beer is brewed in winter, O'Fallon Blackberry Scottish in the spring, O'Fallon Wheach (which is a blend of peach and wheat flavors) during the summer, and O'Fallon Pumpkin beer is a festive fall addition.
